MAZARA DEL VALLO (TRAPANI) - A meeting between a Libyan delegation under the agriculture and fisheries minister and an Italian one was held on the first day of Blue Sea Land, an event organised in Mazara del Vallo by the Fisheries and Blue Growth District.
Taking part - in addition to the Libyan agriculture and fisheries minister, H.E. Abdelbast Ghanimi - were several experts from the North African country.
The Italian delegation was led by foreign ministry undersecretary Manlio Di Stefano and included regional councillor for agriculture and fisheries Edy Bandiera, fisheries district president Nino Carlino, Mazara del Vallo mayor Salvatore Quinci, an representatives of Mazara del Vallo shipyards. Both the delegations underscored the important of starting negotiations that can lay the groundwork for cooperation able to meet the needs of Sicilian fishermen as well as the Libyan population, to promote the training of its fisheries personnel and to solve other problems concerning the agriculture sector. ''Relations between Libya and Italy are very important,'' Undersecretary Di Stefano said, ''and are vital for entrepreneurs in the fisheries sector in Mazara del Valo, who see relations with their Libyan counterpart as a priority.
Unfortunately, since 2011, these relations have suffered enormously and we are trying in every possible way to create a new platform for dialogue between the parties involved. With Minister Ghanimi we have drawn up a shared path that brings together the two private sectors under the umbrella of cooperation and development.'' Mazara del Vallo mayor Quinci and Fisheries and Blue Growth District president Carlino underscored the importance of the meeting.
