(ANSAmed) - BEIRUT, APRIL 6 - The World Health Organization (WHO) has sent about 5,000 COVID-19 test kits to northwestern Syria, an area out of central government control and under Turkish influence, the UN agency noted in a statement.

In collaboration with Syria medical organisations in the northwestern regions of Idlib and Aleppo, WHO has also set up three hospitals with a total of 210 beds to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic: in the city of Idlib, Salqin and Daret Izza.

WHO said that no cases had yet been recorded of COVID-19 in the areas of Aleppo and Idlib out of central government control.
