Algeria: attacks against Hirak protests foiled, 5 arrested

On charges of planning 'terrorist actsì

    ALGIERS - Algerian authorities have arrested five people on charges of planning "terrorist" acts against pro-democracy protests promoted by the Hirak movement, judicial sources said.
    According to a source quoted by official news agency APS, those arrested were planning "terrorist actions" with a car bomb against the Hirak movement in the cities of Tizi Ouzou and Bejaia. They have been charged with "possessing war weapons and explosives to use them for terrorist acts".
    Security forces seized several weapons, including a shotgun, a Kalashnikov assault rifle and munitions, as well as electronic devices and two cars. The suspects aged between 36 and 51 and from the provinces of Bouira and Tizi Ouzou, appeared before a court in Azazga, near Tizi Ouzou. One was held in custody while the other four were released under judicial control.
