WHO says 90% of Africa can't vaccinate 10% of residents

'Unless 200 million doses of vaccine arrive''

(ANSAmed) - JOHANNESBURG, 10 GIU - Nearly 90% of African countries are unable to reach the goal of vaccinating 10% of their people by September, unless they urgently receive 200 million doses of vaccine, said the World Health Organization.

Matshidiso Moeti, WHO Regional Director for Africa, said in an online conference that only seven African nations out of 54 will meet the goal of immunizing one in 10 people by September. Africa accounts for less than 1% of the more than 2.1 billion Covid vaccine doses administered globally.

WHO called on wealthy countries to share their vaccines, and said it is "do or die on dose sharing for Africa". (ANSAmed).
