TEL AVIV - Some 8,646 new COVID-19 infections have been recorded in Israel over the past 24 hours, the highest number in the past six months.

The figures were released by the health ministry, which noted that 6.2% of the 143,000 tests had been positive.

The figures show, however, that there is a slight reduction in the number of those suffering serious effects from the virus but that there are still over 50,000 cases that have not yet recovered.

As of Tuesday, over 1 million Israelis had received a third dose of the vaccine as part of an accelerated procedure.
