Migrants: Spain, 450 new arrivals in southeast and Balearics

Several landings in past 36 hours on route from Algeria

    MADRID - Over 450 migrants landed on the southeastern coast of Spain or the Balearic Islands between Monday and the early hours of Tuesday, said EFE news agency based on data provided by Spanish authorities and the Red Cross.
    According to initial information, the majority of the migrants are North Africans who likely departed from Algeria to reach the Spanish provinces of Almeria and Alicante, the region of Murcia or the Balearic Islands.
    EFE said the migrants who landed in Alicante included a woman who is eight months pregnant and her five children.
    The migratory route from Algeria to Spain is currently one of the Mediterranean's most active, with the number of landings having intensified in recent weeks.
