(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, NOVEMBER 24 - The Tunisian Navy has rescued 22 people from various African countries on a boat in distress off Sfax, the Tunisian defense ministry said in a statement. The migrants - 10 from Guinea, six from Zambia, four from the Ivory Coast and two from Mali - include five women and three children.

The people rescued, aged between three and 35, said they left from the coast of Sidi Mansour, off Sfax, in the night between November 22 and 23, to illegally cross the maritime borders "in the direction of the European space". Taken to the port of Sfax, they were handed to national guards, the statement concluded.
