(ANSAmed) - Prince Albert of Monaco on Friday morning
visited the Sassi di Matera as a tourist, exploring the ancient
districts. Accompanied by tour guide Francesco Foschino, the
prince then went to Palombaro lungo, the ancient tank under
Vittorio Veneto square, in the heart of the historic center of
the southern city, the 2019 European Capital of Culture.
Albert II - who spoke with residents, tourists and journalists, praising the city of Matera - will subsequently be received at the prefecture for a private visit, with the participation of Mayor Domenico Bennardi. He is then scheduled to see the 'crypt of the original sin' (Cripta del Peccato Originale), known as the Sistine Chapel of mural painting, where he will be accompanied by a special guide, ex-mayor Raffaello De Ruggieri, who is currently the president of Fondazione Zetema.
In the afternoon, the prince will visit Alberobello, where he will close his three-day visit to the southeastern Apulo-Lucana area. (ANSAmed)
