MADRID - Italian nationals are in the first place for foreign residents registered in Spain in 2021, with a 6.8% rise and 19,093 new ones in the country.
The figure is of Spain's national statistics institute INE.
According to national registers, there are currently at least 298,817 Italian living in Spain.
At an overall level, last year the population in Spain increased slightly with an additional 34,110 people, according to INE.
The population now stands at 47,432,805 inhabitants.
INE noted that this growth was largely due to an increase in foreign nationals (+49,612 people), while the local population decreased by 15,502 people.
