ISTANBUL - The Turkish fiancée of murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Hatice Cengiz, has tweeted on the visit to Turkey of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) to meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that his visit "doesn't change the fact that he is responsible of murder".

"The legitimization he obtains with visits to various countries each day doesn't change the fact that he is a murderer", said Cengiz, adding that "no diplomatic engagement can legitimize injustice".

In April, a court in Istanbul transferred to Saudi Arabia the trial against 26 Saudi citizens for the murder of Khashoggi, a journalist who criticized the kingdom, in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in 2018. A few weeks later, Erdogan travelled in an official visit to Saudi Arabia, speaking about the "beginning of a new era" and bringing forward a process of normalization of relations between Ankara and Riyadh that were in crisis since Khashoggi's murder.
