(ANSAmed) - TEL AVIV, JULY 4 - The Israeli army said Monday that the "physical conditions" of the bullet that killed Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh make it impossible to establish the origin of the bullet.

"After an extremely detailed forensic analysis, independent, third-party examiners, as part of a process overseen by the U.S.

Security Coordinator (USSC), could not reach a definitive conclusion regarding the origin of the bullet that killed Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. Ballistic experts determined the bullet was badly damaged, which prevented a clear conclusion," a statement issued on Monday by the US State Department said.

Abu Akleh was killed May 11 while she was documenting an operation by the Israeli army at a Palestinian refugee camp in Jenin in the West Bank. The US State Department said that Abu Akleh was most likely killed by shots fired from Israeli positions but that there is no reason to believe that this was intentional.

The Palestinian Authority had given the bullet to the US for testing.(ANSAmed).
