(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, AUGUST 10 - A reported three million tourists have visited Tunisia from the beginning of the year until the end of July, with the number of overnight stays exceeding seven million, Tunisian Tourism Minister Mohamed Moez Belhassine, was quoted as saying by Tap news agency during a visit to the governorate of Medenine. He stressed that the figures were close to those recorded in 2019, the year of reference before the Covid pandemic.

The touristic area of Djerba-Zarzis ranked first at a national level in terms of hosting capabilities, workforce and hotel units. Some 510,000 tourists visited this region from the beginning of the year until the end of July 2022, while overnight stays were 2.4 million, up 218% on the same period in 2021. The Algerian and Libyan markets remained important for Tunisian tourism, observed the minister, especially with the reopening of borders after Covid restrictions. The number of Libyan tourists reached 800,000 arrivals at the end of July, according to the minister. (ANSAmed).
