(ANSAmed) - ROME, 22 SET - The historic movie theater Rio of the capital will host starting Thursday through September 25 the third edition of the 'Mawjoudin Queer Film Festival', an event dedicated to the issue of gender identity and the Queer theory of the entire Mena area. Organized by the cine-club of the Tunisian association Mawjoudin (We exist), with the support of local and foreign NGOs, the festival has an important symbolic meaning as in Tunisia the rights of the LGBTQ+ community are still not respected and homosexuality remains punished by law as a crime. A total of 32 films will be screened, from around the world, including Italy, as well as art performances and debates of Lgbtq rights. The initiative also represents a challenge towards President Kais Saied who has repeatedly publicly announced that he is against the decriminalization of homosexuality in Tunisia. The Italian films at the event are: "Amare Affondo" (Loving deeply), by Matteo Russo, "Sto bene" (I am fine), by Emiliano Sisolfi, and "Un uomo deve essere forte" (A man must be strong), by Ilaria Ciavattini and Elsi Perino.
