(ANSAmed) - BRUSSELS, 13 DECEMBER - The total amount of
bank notes found by the Belgian police over the course of their
search in the homes of VP Eva Kaili and Antonio Panzeri, both
arrested for the Qatargate case, is over one and a half million
euro. Francesco Giorgi who lived at Kaili's domicile, was also
arrested. This is what is reported by Belgian media who cite the
Belgian federal police. This cash amount also includes the money
found in the suitcase of Kaili's father when he was arrested as
he was leaving a hotel in Brussels. The Belgian federal police
shared a picture of the cash it seized. In the picture one can
see piles of 20, 50, 100 and 200 euro bank notes placed on a
table.
In the meantime the European Parliament's VP was taken in the last hours to Haren prison, in the north-eastern outskirts of Brussels, not far from Zaventem international airport. This is what was learned thorough the Belgian federal prosecutor's office. Haren prison was completed a few months ago and it was built to ease the crowded situation of other prisons in the city, in particular the prison of St Gilles and of Forest. Haren has a capacity for over 1,100 detainees and among its guests it also has Salah Abdeslam, the only terrorist who survived the Bataclan attack. The Belgian public prosecutor's office, who was contacted, did not want to confirm if even the other three persons arrested - Antonio Panzeri, Francesco Giorgi, Niccolò Figà-Talamanca- are also lodged in the same prison. All four are expected to appear tomorrow for the first preliminary hearing on the Qatargate.(ANSAmed).
