(ANSAmed) - BELGRADE, JANUARY 29 - Serbian support for EU adhesion fell to 41% last year, the lowest level in the past 11 years, according to a December 2012 survey by the state office for European integration published by Danas daily on Tuesday. Support for joining the EU fell by 8% in the second semester of 2012, according to the survey. In June 2012, 49% of respondents were in favor of being in the EU and 25% were against it, the data showed.

The government has been conducting periodic surveys of popular sentiment about the EU since 2002. A peak of 72% in favor (with just 8% against) was registered in December 2003, and consensus has been eroding since then. ''Almost all parliamentary parties are in favor of EU adhesion, while popular support has fallen to just 41%,'' commented Predrag Simic, president of the international relations forum of the European movement in Serbia.
