Spain: Juan Carlos in Abu Dhabi with entrepreneurs

Monarch visits Emirates, tomorrow in Kuwait

    (ANSAmed) - MADRID, APRIL 14 - With the aim of promoting investments and helping Spanish businesses, King Juan Carlos travelled to Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, on Sunday as part of a four-day trip to the Gulf which will take him to Kuwait on Tuesday. The king is travelling with four ministers and a delegation of 15 businessmen. According to official sources quoted by the media, this visit is the first in a number of trips which will take the Spanish king to visit over the next three months Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCC) including Oman and Bahrain at the end of April and Saudi Arabia and Qatar in May.

    The king will act as the main ambassador of Spanish companies bidding for contracts worth millions in Persian Gulf countries which are investing in ambitious infrastructure projects. The minister of foreign affairs, Jose' Manuel Garcia-Margallo, defence, Pedro Morenes, infrastructure, Ana Pastor, and industry, Jose' Manuel Soria, are part of the delegation.

    Businessmen taking the trip with the monarch include the presidents and CEOs of groups OHL, FCC, Navantia, Airbus, Ferrovial, Indra, ACS, interested in contracts estimated at around 20 billion dollars to be raised for the international fair Dubai 2020 and a total eight billion dollars to build Abu Dhabi's subway network.

    The most advanced projects include, according to sources, the sale of Navantia ships and Airbus planes.

    The Spanish business delegation on Monday is scheduled to meet entrepreneurs and the UAE government. King Juan Carlos, who paid homage on Sunday night to the memory of sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nayan, founder of the Federation of United Arab Emirates, at the great mosque Zayed, will meet Monday the heir prince of Abu Dhabi, sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nayhan, who will host a dinner for the Spanish monarch.

    The Spanish delegation on Tuesday will travel to Kuwait where meetings with the emir and government members are scheduled and on Wednesday talks with businessmen. On the same day Juan Carlos will travel back to Valencia, Spain, to attend the finals of the King's Cup between Real Madrid and Barcelona. (ANSAmed).
