Greece: survey says Syriza leading by 3 points in local vote

Ahead of New Dimokratia (21%) and To Potami (6.8%)

    (ANSAmed) - ATHENS, MAY 23 - Two days before local runoff elections in Greece, radical left party Syriza led by Alexis Tsipras, the European left-wing candidate for EU Commission president, ranked first in preferences of Greek would-be voters, according to a survey carried out by Metron Analysis polling institute on behalf of private broadcaster Ant1, which was published on Friday.

    Syriza was the top choice for 24.2% of those polled ahead of Nea Dimokratia, the center-right ruling party led by Antonis Samaras., with 21% To Vima (the river) ranked third with 6.8%, followed by neo-Nazi Greek party Chrysi Avgi (Golden Dawn) and Elia (Olive) with 6.7%, the Communist party of Greece (Kke) with 3.2%, Independent Greeks (Anel) with 2.8% and the Democratic Left (Dimar) with 2%.

    According to the same survey, 78% of those interviewed support Greece's permanence in the eurozone against 15% who would liketo go back to the old currency (the drachma), while 58% - against 38% - said they opposed early elections. (ANSAmed)
