(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, DECE,BER 23 - While governments from
around the world are congratulating the new president of the
Tunisian Republic Beji Caid Essebsi and Tunisia for successful
elections last Sunday, the most awaited message of all - that of
a political détente - came from the country itself. The defeated
candidate, outgoing President Moncef Marzouki, on Monday called
Beji Caid Essebsi to congratulate him on his victory, according
to a statement published by secularist party Nidaa Tounes.
The statement added that Essebsi assured Marzouki that Tunisia's future must be based on consensus and that the country will need everybody without any type of discrimination or exclusion.
Marzouki then stated he does not mean to appeal official results in spite of the fact that he claimed there were irregularities. (ANSAmed)
