Jerusalem off table? US off too, Palestinians reply

Ready for talks but with East Jerusalem as capital

(ANSAmed) - TEL AVIV, JANUARY 25 - Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas's spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeinah has described as "unacceptable" the comments made by US President Donald Trump at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday.

"If the issue of Jerusalem remains off the table, America will remain away from the table," he said. Palestinians are "ready to engage in negotiations" for a peace process "based on a Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as the capital". Trump "should withdraw" his recent controversial decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, Rudeinah added.

"The threat of the policy of hunger and submission will not work with the Palestinian people," he concluded in reference to the US threat to withhold aid unless the Palestinians return to the negotiating table. (ANSAmed).
