(ANSAmed) - PARIS, SEPTEMBER 18 - After Nicolas Hulot, another leading member of the French government has announced that he is leaving his post. Interior Minister Gerard Collomb told L'Express that he will leave after European elections scheduled in June 2019. He announced that he is running for mayor in Lyon in 2020 and that he is leaving the cabinet to campaign for the election.

''The municipal vote is far away - said Collomb, 71 - if by that time I will not be seriously ill, I will run in Lyon''.

Collomb, who has backed Macron since the start of his political career, was the Socialist mayor of Lyon from 2001 until 2017 before becoming a member of the government.
