Di Maio says Italy will defend Libya from partition attempts

Concern over operations in Sirte, calls for moderation

    (ANSAmed) - ROME, JUNE 22 - Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, in a press conference on Monday at Villa Madama with his German counterpart Heiko Maas, said Italy "will defend Libya from any attempt at partition". "The situation on the ground in Libya concerns us. We fear that operations to liberate Sirte could bring new fighting and cause more civilian victims," Di Maio said. "Italy has already sent a message of moderation, which I spoke about with my colleague Cavusoglu during my visit to Turkey last Wednesday. We will defend Libya from any attempt at partition," Di Maio said.(ANSAmed). (ANSA).
