Peace Now says more streets being built for more settlements

    (ANSAmed) - ROME, APRIL 14 - In 2020 Israel began building 2,433 new housing units in the West Bank, according to a report published by the Israeli NGO Peace Now.

    The organization added that the yearly average for new housing units in Israeli settlements in the West Bank grew by 28% during the Trump administration compared with Obama's presidency.

    It noted that at leats 13% of the homes (325) were in settlements considered illegal according to Israeli law.

    The report also underscored the large amount of funds and resources set aside for the development of the road network, with the intention of doubling the number of settlers in the next decades in the West Bank.

    Peace Now also spoke out against rules to expel Palestinians from the Arab quarters of Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan in East Jerusalem.

    About 460,000 Israelis are living in over 130 settlements in the West Bank. (ANSAmed).
