(ANSAmed) - TEL AVIV, APRIL 30 - Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu has declared a day of national mourning in Israel on Sunday after dozens died in a stampede on Mount Meron during a religious event.

"We will unite together in the pain of the families and in prayer for those injured," he added after visiting the site of the disaster, noting that horrific scenes could be seen, with people including children crushed to death.

Most off the dead have not yet been identified.

"It was," he stressed, " one of the worst dicastero in the history of the country. The fast rescue operation prevented an even higher death toll." (ANSAmed).
