Announcement from director of Tunis headquarters

26 July, 15:20

(ANSAmed) - TUNISI, 26 LUG - Tunisian law enforcement, acting under instructions from Tunisian President Kais Saied, on Monday morning forced the closure of the local headquarters of Qatar-based Arab TV broadcaster Al Jazeera.

Journalists and employees were given the time needed to leave their offices, said Lotfi Hajji, director of Al Jazeera's Tunis headquarters.

Just prior to the closure, Al Jazeera had posted on its Facebook page, citing "well-informed Tunisian sources", that Tunisian Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi was not under arrest but at his home, and that he intended to hold a cabinet meeting despite having been ousted by Saied on Sunday.
