France: Macron leads polls ahead of April presidential vote

    (ANSAmed) - PARIS, JANUARY 11 - French President Emmanuel Macron continues to head polls ahead of presidential elections later this year, a survey said on Tuesday. According to the poll carried out by the institute OpinionWay for Les Echos and Radio Classique published on Tuesday, the current head of State is ahead in preferences in the first round of elections on April 10, in front of the candidate of Rassemblement National (RN) Marine Le Pen (17%) and the candidate of the Républicains (LR) Valérie Pécresse (16%). The far-right candidate Eric Zammour ranked fourth, with 12% of would-be votes.

    On the left, Jean-Luc Mélenchon (La France Insoumise) garnered 9% of preferences of those polled, ahead of environmentalist Yannick Jadot (8%) and Socialist Anne Hidalgo, at 4%. In the runoff on April 24, Macron would be confirmed for a second mandate, according to the survey, both against Marine Le Pen (57% to 43%) and against Valérie Pécresse (54% to 46%).
