(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, MAY 26 - The draft of the new Tunisian Constitution will be published on June 30 and voters are scheduled to express their opinion in a referendum on July 25, 2022, according to a presidential decree published on Thursday by Tunisia's Official Gazette. Tunisians living abroad will start voting on July 23.

By June 20, the "national consultative commission for a new Republic", which was recently created, will have to present to President Kais Saied a project of constitution "for a new Republic". The Commission is divided into three substructures, a consultative committee for economic and social affairs formed by representatives of Ugtt, Utica, Utap, Unft and Ltdh, a consultative committee for legal affairs composed by the deans of faculties of law, juridical and political sciences, and chaired by the oldest member, and a committee of national dialogue including members of the two previous committees and chaired by the president who coordinates the national consultative commission, constitutionalist Sadok Belaïd. Many members of the opposition have accused of authoritarianism the organization of this commission and the mechanism of "national dialogue" refused in this form by the union Ugtt. The deans of law faculties have also refused the dialogue, stressing the "firm will to guarantee the neutrality of university institutions and the need to keep them away from political issues".(ANSAmed).
