Including Italy; financial contributions or reallocations

BRUSSELS - Eighteen member States, including Italy, and three associated countries, have adopted a declaration on the implementation of a temporary mechanism of solidarity to respond to difficulties over immigration regarding member States of first entry overlooking the Mediterranean. The announcement was made by the French presidency of the EU Council.

The contribution of solidarity will take the form of reallocation (when a member State takes under its charge asylum seekers who have already been registered in a country of first entry). Countries not accepting this form of solidarity will provide other contributions, of a financial nature or of personnel for the management of borders.
