Macron in Rome, hearing with pope on October 24

President at 'Cry for peace' event organized by Sant'Egidio

    (ANSA) - PARIS, 12 OTT - French presidential sources have confirmed Emmanuel Macron's visit to Rome on October 23-24. The same sources added that the French President will meet with Pope Francis at the Vatican on Monday, October 24.

    Macron will visit as part of the event 'Il grido della pace' (the cry for peace) organized in Rome by the Community of Sant'Egidio. The inaugural conference, on the 23rd, will be held at the Nuvola auditorium in the Eur district, with speeches by Italian President Sergio Mattarella and French President Emmanuel Macron. For the occasion, a lunch has been scheduled at the Quirinale presidential palace for the two presidents.

    The second and third economies of the euro zone, France and Italy are among the founding countries of the European Union, tied by profound historic, economic and cultural connections.

    Last November, Rome and Paris signed the so-called Quirinale Treaty further strengthening relations between the two nations, also in a European framework. (ANSA).
