Tourism: Federbalneari Alberghi, beach reservations boom

Maurelli, important to accelerate green pass

28 April, 15:22

(ANSAmed) - ROME, APRIL 28 - Many Italian coastal regions say they are selling out for the next tourist season and for this reason it is urgent to accelerate the process for the green vaccine pass that will allow citizens to move within the European Union and that could allow foreigners to vacation in Italy, helping a national tourism sector that is worth 11.2 billion euros, according to a first report by Federbalneari Alberghi, the association representing hotels in beach resorts that is part of Federbalneari Italia.

According to the association, "although the scenario is not yet homogeneous and our country is losing seasonal market shares and international tourism flows, there are excellent signs of domestic bookings for the months of July and August that induce us to expect an intense season for hotels in beach resorts", the association said.

Sardinia is in top position with a good perspective in terms of reservations for July and August while the April-June period preferred by foreigners is considered lost at the moment. Puglia in particular, a destination of choice for incoming tourism, is paying the price of a smaller number of air connections although forecasts for the summer are positive.

"We expect from minister Garavaglia - said the president of Federbalneari Italia Marco Maurelli - a strong acceleration on the special document at a European level that will allow international movements that are Covid-safe. The Green pass, in fact, will allow us to be competitive at a European level, especially towards those countries that are moving in the same direction: first of all Greece, a real promoter of the initiative, as well as Spain, Croatia, Austria, Poland, Denmark, Estonia and Finland".
