Covid: Morocco suspends flights to and from Italy

Rabat extends state of emergency over variants

01 March, 18:09

(ANSAmed) - RABAT, MARCH 1 - Morocco is suspending flights to and from Italy as part of measures to fight the spread of coronavirus. The measure comes into effect at midnight today until 11:00 pm on March 21. Flights to and from Belgium will also be suspended in the same way.

Rabat's government announced on Monday the extension of the state of health emergency for another two weeks. The government has been extending since January 13 restrictions to contain the spread of the pandemic.

A curfew is in place from 9 pm until 6 am. Gatherings and celebrations are banned and restaurants and shops close at 8 pm.

On the eve of the expiration of restrictions the government announced the new extension until March 16.

The restrictive measures are aimed at containing the spread of variants, the statement said. For this reason, in view of the start of the holy month of fasting Ramadan, which is scheduled to start in the middle of April, new measures could be approved.

During Ramadan, in fact, visits by relatives are more frequent, posing a danger to the spread of the virus. (ANSAmed).
