(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, 03 AGO - Tunisian President Kais Saied on
Sunday said ''organizers of illegal maritime crossings, human
traffickers, commit crimes that the State can't tolerate'',
during a visit to the port of Sfax and Mahdia. The highest
number of crossings towards Italy's coasts have departed from
this region, where the president visited the headquarters of the
regional coast guard. In a statement issued by the Tunisian
presidency, Saied stressed the importance of the role undertaken
by the coast guards in fighting irregular migration and
reiterated his pledge to boost efforts to monitor the coast.
However, according to the president, it is necessary to shed
light on the real reasons behind the phenomenon, stressing the
need for boosted cooperation between various countries to find
new solutions to the problem of irregular migration, offering
would-be migrants conditions that can convince them to remain in
their home country.
On a strictly operational level, the presidency of the
government has recently given to the center of coordination of
the coast guard of Mahdia, Sfax and Kerkennah a new aircraft to
monitor the coast at night. (ANSAmed).
