Italy's first coronavirus hotspot at
Codogno in Lombardy is set to return to normality Saturday as
its baseball team faces off against a local rival.
Mayor Francesco Passerini said the first match of the season
against Piacenza "will be the symbol of an Italy that is
restarting, of life conquering death".
The Serie B derby will be played behind closed doors and without
spectators.
"After months with death hovering over us it is a great step
forward towards normality," Passerini told ANSA.
"Baseball in Codogno has a great tradition, and for many people
it is a reason for living".
Codogno, south of Milan, is at the heart of the Italian region
which has been hardest hit by the virus, Lombardy.
The northern region accounts for over half of Italy's almost
35,000 COVID deaths.
