The archives of the Venice Film
Festival have yielded a copy of Stanley Kubrick's first film,
Fear and Desire, sources said Wednesday.
The then 23-year-old photographer presented the film, initially
named Shape of Fear, at the world's oldest film festival in
1952.
Film fest sources said a reconstruction of how the film came to
be presented "already showed the genius of one of the foremost
maestros in the history of cinema".
Kubrick (1928-1999) made cinema milestones including Paths of
Glory, Spartacus, Doctor Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey,
Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, The Shining, and Full Metal
Jacket.
His last film, Eyes Wide Shut, was completed shortly before his
death in 1999 at the age of 70.
