The League should elect a new leader
after its disappointing showing under Matteo Salvini in Sunday's
general election, ex-party head and former Lombardy Governor
Roberto Maroni has said.
"Now there is talk of an extraordinary League congress. It's
necessary," Maroni wrote in a column for daily newspaper Il
Foglio.
"I know who should be elected the new party secretary. But I'm
not naming names for now".
Salvini has admitted that he is not satisfied with the League's
election showing, but stressed that he has no intention of
resigning, saying the outcome has made him even more determined.
