Femicides are up 8% in Italy since
since January compared to the same period last year, according
to a police report issued by the interior ministry Wednesday.
Out of a total murder count of 263 from January 1 to November
21, the report said, 109 regarded women.
Of these, 93 took place "in a family or relationship context",
the report said, and 63 of the women were murdered by partners
or exes.
Crimes defacing victims' appearance including permanent lesions
to the face were up 35% in the first 10 months of the year, from
46 to 62, the report said.
Since the entry into force of the Code Red law against violence
against women two years ago, it said, such crimes have been 143,
with victims 22% female and perpetrators 92% male.
