Covid: Balkan countries experience high increase in cases

Deaths are also on the rise in Montenegro and Albania

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JUL 25 - Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and North Macedonia are the European countries with the highest increase in new infections in the last seven days, with deaths also increasing significantly in Albania and Montenegro.

According to Worldometer data, new cases increased by 78% in Bosnia, 75% in Serbia, and 65% in North Macedonia, with severe increases recorded throughout Central and Eastern Europe. In Montenegro, deaths increased from one to eight in one week, from three to ten in Albania, and from 19 to 46 in Serbia in the last seven days. Serbia is also reporting an increase in hospitalizations, with half of the beds at the military Covid hospital in Karaburma, Belgrade, already occupied, and the clinic's director predicting 10,000-15,000 new cases per day at the peak of the current wave.
