Summer: 'red dot', A4 reopening was 'providential'

180,000 vehicles expected today. Bound to FVG, Slovenia, Croatia

23 July, 18:44
(ANSA) - UDINE, 23 LUG - Thanks to the coordination by the Prefecture and the support of the Fire Brigade, Traffic Police, and Civil Defense - all engaged in the fight against the fire that is ravaging the Karst area - the Autovie Venete company managed Wednesday afternoon to reopen the highway in the Villesse - Trieste Lisert section toward Trieste (as well as Sistiana - Redipuglia in the direction of Venice) in time for the "weekend exodus." Autovie deems "providential" this intervention as it allows vacationers to travel along the network without any particular inconvenience on a "red dot" Saturday. The forecast is to exceed 180,000 vehicles passing through today.

The Trieste/Lisert barrier - closed for a couple of days - was very crowded by motorists who recorded up 20% in vehicle flows at 1 p.m. compared to the same time on Saturday a year ago.

Also, up 13% (compared to 2021) were outbound vehicles passing through Latisana toll booth (towards Lignano and Bibione) and San Stino +5% (towards Caorle).

There is a 7% increase in vehicles traveling along the entire network compared to the same period in 2021, both for local seaside destinations and toward Slovenia and Croatia.

Autovie Venete also recorded many departures - especially in the morning - to the mountains with a hefty flow along the Venice - Udine route toward Tarvisio. Queues were recorded at the Lisert, Latisana, San Donà, San Stino, and Cessalto yards.

An accident between San Stino and the Portogruaro Junction, which has already been resolved without any serious consequences, had caused around 3 p.m. today a few kilometers of traffic jams toward Trieste. Therefore, the situation in that section is normalizing.

Tomorrow will be another hectic traffic day with a forecast of 160 thousand vehicles. Next Saturday will be the first "big exodus" of the summer and, therefore, another "black dot" day.
