22 July, 08:57
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JUL 22 - Croatia's Istria County has begun the process of amending its spatial plan to include solar power plants of at least 10 MW each, as well as to investigate the feasibility of planning for offshore wind parks, according to the specialized portal Balkan Green Energy News, citing local authorities who stated that they want to make the peninsula energy independent.

The current spatial plan for the county dates from 2016. Members of the local regional assembly backed the proposal to put the initiatives launched by businesses, citizens, cities, and municipalities into action. The first step is to identify available land for solar power plants with a minimum capacity of 10 MW each. According to the portal, the local authority will also investigate the possibility of planning offshore wind power plants and regulating the implementation of the Istria County Spatial Plan in the section covering renewable energy production.
