Croatia: ambitious Peljesac Bridge to be opened on July 26

Built by the China Bridge and Road Corporation

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JUL 25 - On July 26, the 2,140-meter-long Peljesac Bridge will formally open, creating a direct road connection between Croatia's southernmost region and the rest of the nation. "The construction of the bridge is a sovereignist move to connect the Croatian territory," the Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said last week, quoted by the national news agency HINA, confirming the inauguration of the bridge and inviting everyone to attend the ceremonies.

The entire project, built by the China Bridge and Road Corporation, including access roads, cost 525 million euros, of which €357 million euros were secured as a grant from the European Union, the Croatian news agency HINA reported. The bridge connects the villages of Komarna on the mainland and Brijesta on the Peljesac peninsula, which is currently cut off at Neum, where Bosnia and Herzegovina has access to the Adriatic Sea, according to HINA last week.

Meanwhile, Strabag Hrvatska director Veljko Nizetic has confirmed that, ahead of the bridge's inauguration on Tuesday, the construction company will complete all access road works on time and within budget. (ANSA).
