(ANSA) - BELGRADE, AUG 17 - In September, Belgrade will host EuroPride, one of the most important international LGBTI events.

Belgrade will be the first city in Southeast Europe to host a major LGBTI event for the entire continent. Belgrade won a historic bid to host EuroPride in 2022 in September 2019, beating out Barcelona, Dublin, and a joint bid from Portugal, according to organizers. EuroPride 2022 will be held in Belgrade from September 12th to September 18th, 2022. "In the Western Balkans, the LGBTI+ community faces deep inequality and discrimination . EuroPride in Belgrade is a turning point in the region," the official website of the event reads. Protests were held in Belgrade by nationalists that are opposing the event.
