CoE, Albania lacks high court judges

The problem is linked to the evaluation process.

(ANSA) - STRASBOURG, 05 OTT - In its report on the situation in 2020, CEPEJ, the Council of Europe body that evaluates the efficiency of judicial systems in member countries, says Albania had a problem with a lack of judges, especially at the level of the third instance, where it had failed to fill 13 of 17 positions.

That same year, Strasbourg points out, Albania had 10.8 judges per 100,000 inhabitants, a ratio "significantly lower than the European average." According to CEPEJ, a substantial impact on the number of judges in the country was due to the evaluation process, which began in 2014 and led to the dismissal of many judges or caused them to resign.
