Slovenia codifies same-sex marriage and adoption

Same conditions as those that apply to married couples

05 October, 11:25
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, OCT 5 - On Tuesday, the Slovenian Parliament passed changes to the family code that legalized same-sex marriage and adoptions with 48 votes in favor and 29 votes against, according to the Slovenian news agency STA. The amendments redefine marriage as a union of two people and allow homosexual partners to adopt children under the same conditions as married couples. The bill was drafted by the government and passed two months after the Constitutional Court issued a landmark ruling declaring the definition of marriage as a union of a man and a woman to be discriminatory, as well as the inability of same-sex partners to adopt.
