(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 9 - Eastern European countries are preparing for a wave of Ukrainian refugees driven to leave their homes in the wake of Russian attacks that have targeted power plants, forcing the population to continuous blackouts and no heating, as the Reuters website reported.

Slovakia and Hungary are preparing for a more significant influx of evacuees in the coming months. "We expect an increase. It's currently by 15%," said Roman Dohovic, aid coordinator for Kosice (eastern Slovakia).

Missiles and drones launched by Moscow's troops have been striking for weeks Ukraine's energy infrastructure when winter arrives, and average temperatures drop to several degrees below zero, with low-temperature records of minus twenty degrees.

President Volodymyr Zelensky recently pointed out that more than 4 million people are without electricity in 14 regions, including Kyiv. (ANSA).
