(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 15 - Serie A's bottom side Salernitana
said Tuesday that they have sacked coach Stefano Colantuono.
It is the second time this season that the Salerno side have
fired their coach, after Fabrizio Castori, the man who led them
to promotion from Serie B last season, was dismissed in October.
Salernitana drew 1-1 at second-bottom Genoa on Sunday.
Former Torino, Genoa and Udinese boss Davide Nicola is favourite
to take over although the name of former Juve coach Andrea Pirlo
has also been mentioned.
On Monday an Italian Soccer Federation tribunal upheld
Salernitana's appeal against being handed at 3-0 defeat and a
one-point penalty in the Serie A standings for failing to turn
up to their fixture at Udinese in December.
The local health authority had banned the team from travelling
to Udine for the match because an outbreak of COVID-19 cases
within the squad.
As a result of the ruling, the match will have to be rescheduled
and Salernitana got back a one point, meaning they now have 13,
leaving them still eight points away form the safety zone.
