Italy's draft budget plan is to be
praised for its moves to stoke an inclusive and sustainable
economic recovery, the European Commission said in its autumn
statements Wednesday.
The EC said Italy should maintain budget sustainability because
of its high debt, and should take measures to curb the rise of
public spending.
In other points, it said that: Italy is among the countries with
highest COVID costs; that Rome should use the National Recovery
and Resilience Plan (NRRP) to boost its post-COVID recovery
while staying alert to macroeconomic risks like inflation; and
that Brussels had not asked the Italian government for any
correction in its budget figures.
EC VP Valdis Dombrovskis said that the Commission was watching
Italy for the possibility of excessive imbalances and for the
high level of public debt.
