(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 15 AGO - On 'Ferragosto day' the beaches of Friuli Venezia Giulia are crowded. From Lignano Sabbiadoro (Udine) to Grado (Gorizia), beach resorts become a destination for vacationers and residents.

"August is August," observes the regional coordinator of the Italian Seaside Trade Union (Sib), Salvatore Sapienza, and in the middle of the month "the beaches always record full attendance, even if they are less crowded than one might have thought considering the good performance of the season in June and July." There are many foreigners: "This means that August is no longer just the vacation month for Italians. They come from Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg. In July there were several presences from the Czech Republic. Also, and for the first time, during the summer there were many Ukrainian tourists in Lignano." In contrast, he adds, "very few Russians were seen, despite the fact that Lignano has always had some interesting Russian clientele." (ANSA).
