First Russian freight train via Lithuania to Kaliningrad

Moscow, common sense sometimes prevails

27 July, 19:26
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JUL 27 - A freight train arrived in Kaliningrad from Russia via Lithuania, the first such journey since the European Union said that Lithuania allow Russian freight to pass through its territory, the regional governor Anton Alikhanov said, quoted by the Russian agency Tass. "This is the first train to arrive after the EU decision: a rather significant result," Alikhanov said. The train was made up of 60 freight cars filled with concrete.

Dmitry Peskov, the Russian presidential spokesman, sees the resolution of the issue of goods transit to Kaliningrad, the country's westernmost exclave, as a positive development. "The crisis situation has been resolved, which is a good thing." Sometimes we see some seeds of common sense even in the midst of anti-Russian hysteria." (ANSA).
