Montenegro: Russian embassy suspends consular services

After the expulsion of six Russian diplomats from the country

30 September, 13:41
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, SEP 30 - After the decision by Montenegro to expel six Russian diplomats on espionage charges, the embassy of the Russian Federation in Podgorica has announced the indefinite suspension of the activities of its consular office.

Regional media reported. In a message addressed to Russian citizens, the decision was motivated by"'the hostile actions of the Montenegrin authorities" towards the Russian embassy. It was pointed out that Russian citizens can turn to Moscow's embassies in neighboring countries for consular services.

Yesterday the Montenegrin Foreign Ministry declared persona non grata six Russian diplomats accused of activities contrary to the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations.

Moreover, yesterday Montenegrin Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic broke the news of the arrest of several people accused of espionage activities on behalf of Russia. (ANSA).
