Austrian soldiers took part in migrant border controls alongside police for the first time Thursday on the A13 highway 25 kilometres from the Brenner Pass.
The operation "is the first of this size jointly by the police and armed forces on the highway," said Tyrol police officer Manfred Dummer. Hundreds of cars, vans and buses were controlled in the operation, online Austrian media said. The op was then extended to the railway line, with some goods trains being checked. Six Africans, two women and four men, were found under a liquid-gas car heading from Bolzano to Munich.
