The European People's Party (EPP)
said Friday that Deputy Premier, Transport Minister and
rightwing League party leader Matteo Salvini would come to be
ashamed for saying the people are always right over Vladimir
Putin's win in Russia's rigged presidential election Sunday.
The foreign affairs chief for the EPP, to which Deputy Premier
and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani's post Berlusconi Orza
Italia (FI) belongs, a centre right ally of the League, said
"Salvini will come to be ashamed of what he said about Putin and
the elections".
Lithuanian MEP Rasa Juknevičienė, who is also deputy chair of
the caucus, said on X: "The opposition leaders who have been
killed cannot explain now to Matteo Salvini why they have lost.
But history will respond, as it has done in the past, with the
fall of all dictators. And then, Minister Salvini, you will be
ashamed of these words on Putin's victory".
